How to get the speed you’re paying for
-
Router/Modem (CPE): Make sure the WAN/UNI-D port supports 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps
-
Wi-Fi: Use Wi-Fi 6/6E/7; large spaces may need mesh Wi-Fi
-
Cabling: Use Cat6 or better; confirm device network ports are 1 Gbps+
-
Testing: First test wired at the router, then test over Wi-Fi
-
HFC note: Performance can vary by local HFC segment utilisation
What to expect in real life
-
Providers must publish typical evening speeds (7–11 pm)
-
Real-world results depend on your access tech, CPE quality, home/office layout, and the provider’s network
FAQs
Will I be upgraded automatically?
Not guaranteed. Timing and process are decided by your provider.
Is this only for home users?
No. It applies to homes and businesses on FTTP/HFC.
(Enterprise Ethernet is separate and not part of these changes.)
Do I need a new router?
If your router has a 100 Mbps WAN port or older Wi-Fi, you’ll likely need newer hardware.
I’m on a plan below 100 Mbps will it change?
No. Consider moving to a higher tier to see the new speeds.
