iPhone 12 2020 - everything you need to know

The wait is almost over. Apple officially announced the next-gen of iPhones at about 4am this morning, during their virtual October event.

Soon to be available are four new models - the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

We don't know everything about the new phones just yet - not until we can get our hands on one.  But with the release dates coming up quick, it won't be much longer until we do!

Release Dates

The release date for the iPhone 12 and 12 pro is October 24th,  while the iPhone 12 Mini and Pro Max isn't set to be available until mid-November.

Our pre-orders for this beauty are opening this week - so watch this space!

Design and display

The new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro features a wide 6.1" display with more screen and less bevel. On the top is the same notch which we've seen from previous iPhone devices.

The 12 Mini has a smaller display of 5.4", which will fit snugly into your hand if that's what you're into.

If you like a big screen, the iPhone 12 Pro Max boasts a huge 6.7" display, to make it easier to use - especially if you've got tired eyes.

The colours available for the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini include black, white, red, green and blue. The Pro versions, however, come in gold, silver, graphite or deep blue finishes.

The new model reminds us of the iPhone 5, with the squared-off edges and aluminium frame. The rear is glass, but Apple has stressed that it's a lot more durable than previous models. The phone has new tech on the front called Ceramic Shield, which is designed to not only be tougher, but more durable than any other smart phone on the market.

The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini comes with dual rear lenses. One with a 12mp wide camera with an f/1.6 aperture and the other is an ultra-wide shooter with an f/2.4 aperture. The ultra-wide lens also features a 120-degree field of view for even better photos.

The Pro models sport a triple-lens camera setup. On the Pro, both of the main lenses feature wider apertures of f/1.6, allowing it to see 27% more in low-light situations. On the otherhand, the Pro Max can see 87% better in low light as it has a larger sensor.

We don't know too much about how powerful the battery is in the new iPhones. Apple has announced that it is capable of 16 hours video playback and has fast-charging capabilities of reaching 50% from 0% in 30 minutes. (With a separate 20W adapter, of course.)

The biggest change when it comes to power is the new MagSafe charging capabilities. It's basically just a magnet within the phone that allows you to stick it onto a wireless charging pad. The purpose is so it doesn't slip off while you're using it, and it's said to be a bit faster than Qi wireless charging too!
